This is my second post today. I am getting caught up again. Don’t miss the one I posted earlier tonight about the Tetons. Those pictures are great. Today was a travel day. We headed toward Cheyenne, WY, and planned to stop in Rawlines, WY, for the night. As we left Jackson Hole we were driving on a scenic route (the only way out.) We stopped at a convenience store and I asked the owner if they had much snow this week. His answer was, “No, we only got about 6 inches.” When I acted shocked at ONLY 6 inches, he said that “up the road, they got 14 inches.” I guess it is all in your perspective. We got a picture of a moose close to the road and then made a picture of the mountain side that looked like fall rather than the winter-wonderland we had been in for several days. James then got a great picture of a cloud lying in the mountain. I also became very interested in the beauty of the clouds above the mountains. Later we were under a rain cloud but could see the sunshine in the distance. When we got to the interstate we headed east and got a different perspective of the Wyoming landscape. This area was primarily arid hills but the clouds were still beautiful. James made a picture of fences that we had been seeing for a long time. These are very unusual fences and they do not connect. There will be several rows close together but they obviously don’t keep anything in or out. Later we learned these are “snow fences” designed to slow the blowing snow from getting on the roads. Interesting concept. We pulled into Rawlines for the night and asked about a place to eat. The receptionist recommended Samfords. She said it was easy to find because it had a truck on top! It was really different and the food was ok. Later we rode through the town spotting a beautiful church, a historic train depot and a beautiful Victorian style home. While we were in the residential area, a young deer ran between two houses. We turned the corner and found 2 other deer in the back yard of one of the houses and the young deer trying to figure out how to get where the other deer were. We stopped a resident and asked if we should call someone and he laughed and said, “That happens all the time. The deer come into the yards and act like pets.” At that point we figured we just needed to get back to our hotel. A really interesting day.
