We started our day at a drug store. I have developed a sinus infection and my doctor called in some medicine to our pharmacy. I went to a drug store here in Boise, Idaho and they called our pharmacy and then filled the prescription. Sure hope it helps. Then we headed to the state capital. Boy were we disappointed. It is totally CLOSED for renovation! James got a few pictures but we couldn’t get close. He did get a picture of statues that depict Lewis and Clark. We decided to go to Idaho City. At one point this town was the largest town in the state (during the gold rush.) It is believed that millions of dollars of gold were taken from this area. When the gold ran out, the people did too. They have preserved many of the buildings and some are occupied by businesses. Several are on the National Historic Register. One of the most important is the building that held the presses for Idaho World, the oldest newspaper in Idaho. It was originally printed here in 1863. It is still printed in a neighboring town. As you can tell most of the buildings are empty now. James fell for Calamity Jane (the wooden maiden.) We left there heading toward Yellowstone and again saw some unusual landscape. We also spotted farmers harvesting potatoes (Idaho potatoes.) They are hauled away in HUGE trucks! We found a hotel early today – James and I are both tired – and we got a couple of great sunset shots. Be sure to notice the snow covered mountains. This area got 2 feet of snow last week! Hopefully it is gone when we get to the main mountain range (although I doubt it.) A good day.
