Mon Aug 11

We got up early planning to see the rest of Acadia Park and heading out back to Bangor, Maine for the night.  Our plan was centered on the road to Cadillac Mountain, the highest point in the park.  As we drove that side of the park’s coastline we immediately saw the major difference from the other side of the coastline.  This was rugged and had significant outcroppings of rocks where people were walking and/or lying in the sun.  It was very beautiful and again, we could tell from the water marks, we were there at low tide.

We learned there was an area named “Thundering rocks” where high tide waves made a loud thundering sound.  The waves were pretty but quiet when we were there.

On the road up the mountain we saw a sign about “Bubble rock” which was an unusual “balanced” rock.  We wanted to walk to the rock which we were told was a 20 minute walk.  After 20 minutes (uphill) I turned around and came back.  Eventually I got worried about James but had no cell coverage.  When he FINALLY came back, he said he had been told 2 more times on the trail that it was just “20 minutes further.”  He was exhausted but he got his picture!

As we finished the ride to the top of the mountain we found beautiful landscapes.

Once we left the park we headed back to Bangor Main for the night.  On the way I talked to Stacey.  She had taken Ally to the ENT for a checkup today and he UNEXPECTANTLY pulled her tooth!  It had been really lose and they had tried to pull it before but it just wouldn’t come out.  The ENT said it was “in his way.”  SHOCK!  Ally may never go back – just kidding – she was glad to get it out because it had been hurting.  Finally arriving back in Bangor, the hotel where we stayed before was booked but they recommended another place.  It was an off brand and we were hesitant to check in but we sure are glad we did.  They were absolutely the nicest staff in our entire trip.  They had a wonderful afternoon snack and a great hot breakfast.  Each member of the staff went out of their way to welcome us and to help in any way.  We have stayed in places a lot more expensive but NEVER with a nicer staff.  When I checked my e-mail I learned that DeLyn and Stacey had gotten the grandkids together and made their picture at Limestone Church on Highway 72.  The church was damaged by the tornado in April and has been condemned.  It really means a lot to us that they got this picture because James’ parents were married in that church.  What a wonderful way to end the day.
